Obituary for Joyce A. Hicks

Mother-in-Law of Lori Hicks, OFDA Past President, Mueller Funeral Home

Joyce A. Hicks (nee Griffith) of West Chester, Ohio, passed away peacefully Saturday, January 7, 2023 at the age of 83. She was born Tuesday, November 7, 1939 in Ulvah, Kentucky to Rence and Vergie (nee Whittaker) Griffith.

A lady of valor, Joyce was born to be the matriarch of her family. She would spend hours pulling weeds and tending to her garden that would produce the most amazing vegetables you have ever eaten. Her well-manicured fingers pieced many quilts together over the years that her family will forever cherish. Joyce loved to shop, whether it was for her or someone else. When her health began to decline, she found a new appreciation for taking care of her plants and completing puzzles.

The family finds comfort knowing that Joyce has been reunited with her family that she loved so dearly. Joyce was preceded in death by: parents, Rence and Vergie Griffith; husband, John Hicks; children, David Stamper, Felicia Stamper Hicks, and Daniel W. Hicks; and her brother and sister-in-law, Buford "Boot" and Ann Griffith.

Left to cherish Joyce's legacy are: her son, Chris (Julie) Hicks, daughter-in-law, Lori Hicks; grandchildren, Samantha (Joe) Dunaway, Emily (Casey) Hall, David Hicks, Zoe Hicks, Grace Hicks, John Hicks, and Henrietta Hicks; great-grandchildren, Felicia Dunaway, Juliana Dunaway, Jackson Dunaway, Mason Hall, Lane Hall, and Virginia Hall; brother, Ken (Willetta) Griffith; and many loving family members and friends.

Visitation will be Saturday, January 14, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Mueller Funeral Home, 6791 Tylersville Road, Mason, Ohio 45040. A Celebration of Life Service will immediately follow at 2:00 PM at the Funeral Home.
