This session offers a thorough exploration of preneed and life insurance within funeral service. Participants will gain insight into insurance products, licensing requirements, and the roles of producers and funeral counselors. The program covers a variety of plan types—including simplified issue, guaranteed issue, and graded benefit plans—and provides strategies for aligning coverage with consumer needs. Attendees will also learn about arrangement and funding processes, regulatory compliance, and the ethical responsibilities of licensed professionals. By the end of the session, funeral professionals will have a deeper understanding of how insurance-based funding supports both families and funeral home operations, ensuring effective, compliant, and client-focused service.

Tom brings more than 25 years of experience in the insurance and preneed industry, helping counselors enhance their knowledge and success. His extensive career includes roles such as Agent, Account Executive, Sales Manager, District Manager, Regional Training Director, Regional Sales Director, Director of Conservation and Field Development, Director of Development and National Accounts, Vice President of Sales, and Marketing, Vice President Special Initiatives, and currently Vice President Preneed Solutions.
He holds the Certified Preplanning Consultant (CPC) designation through the National Funeral Directors Association and has served on the NFDA Development Board. Licensed in Life and Health Insurance in Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Missouri, and Illinois, Tom has also taught continuing education programs across the U.S. and all Canadian provinces. A frequent speaker at NFDA, ICCFA, FSAC and State Conventions.
A Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) and recipient of a Certificate in Management from the American Management Association, Tom has instructed courses in insurance sales, management development, pre-licensing certification, ethics, and marketing. He holds both Master’s and Ph.D. degrees in Marketing and began his career with the Federal Bureau of Investigation before transitioning into the insurance profession.
