Job Summary:
A full-time funeral director plays a critical role in the funeral service industry, responsible for assisting grieving families in making funeral arrangements and carrying out memorial services according to their wishes. This position requires proficiency in organizational, interpersonal, and logistical skills, as well as sensitivity and empathy towards mourning families during a difficult time.
Job Responsibilities:
- Meet with grieving families to discuss and plan funeral arrangements, including the choice of casket, burial or cremation, funeral service location, and any special requests or cultural considerations.
- Provide guidance and expertise on legal requirements and necessary documentation related to burial or cremation processes.
- Other responsibilities may include:
- Coordinate logistics for funeral ceremonies, such as coordinating with clergy, musicians, and other participants.
- Oversee scheduling and coordination of visitation hours, funeral services, and burial or cremation arrangements.
- Complete paperwork, including certifying of death certificates, signing permits, and other necessary legal documents for the decedent.
- Handle financial transactions, including billing, payment collection, and accounting tasks.
- Provide emotional support and guidance to grieving families throughout the funeral arrangement process.
- Offer resources and referrals for grief counseling or support groups to help families cope with their loss.
- Offer assistance with obituary writing, flowers, and other memorial-related arrangements.
-Mortuary Science Licensee in the State of Michigan
- Previous experience in funeral service is preferred.
- Proficient knowledge of funeral service practices, regulations, and local legal procedures.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide compassionate support to grieving families.
- Strong organizational abilities, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Sensitivity to cultural and religious diversity, offering appropriate services for a wide range of belief systems.
- Familiarity with technology and software applications related to funeral services and record-keeping.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to accommodate the needs of grieving families.
- Valid driver's license
- The ability to lift 50 pounds and roll or manipulate up to 300 pounds with mechanical assistance, and heavy objects (e.g., caskets) as required.
-Salary range $52,000 to $78,000 per year
