Obituary for John N. Schnurrenberger

Former Owner of the Schnurrenberger Funeral Home in West Mansfield

John N. Schnurrenberger, 92, longtime owner of the Schnurrenberger Funeral Home in West Mansfield, passed away peacefully, early Sunday, June 21, 2020 at his residence.

Born March 30, 1928 in Austintown, he was the son of the late John Armand and Virginia (Neff) Schnurrenberger. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brothers, Donald and Robert Schnurrenberger.

On February 27, 1954 in Newport, RI, he married his wife of over 66 years, Marie (Iantoni) Schnurrenberger and she survives in West Mansfield. He is also survived by his children, Linda (John) Soughan of Millburn, NJ, John A. Schnurrenberger of Dallas, TX and Susan (Ronald) Ridge of West Mansfield; grandchildren, John P. Soughan of Washington D.C., Katherine Soughan of Millburn, NJ, Sydney Schnurrenberger of Los Angeles, CA, Sophia Schnurrenberger of Dallas, TX and Nicolas and Madison Ridge of West Mansfield; step grandchildren, Ryan Ridge of Bellefontaine, Colin (Taylor) Ridge of West Mansfield, Dylan (Stephanie Luczkowski) Ridge of New Albany; step great grandchildren, Mason, Kamryn, Ivy, Bennett and Miles; a sister, Margaret (John) Remias of Austintown and a brother, David (Karen) Schnurrenberger of Austintown.

John served as an officer in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was a proud graduate of the Ohio State University, graduated Summa Cum Laude and served as class president at the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science.  John and Marie eventually settled and raised their family in West Mansfield where they owned and operated the Schnurrenberger Funeral Home for 25 Years. He was a licensed funeral director for over 50 years.

A devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, he was a faithful member of the West Mansfield United Methodist Church and served on the church council. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 603 in West Mansfield, was a county representative to Mary Rutan Hospital for several years, was a 50 year member of the Lion’s Club where he was named a Marvin Jones Fellow for Dedicated Humanitarian Service, was a charter member of the Logan County Education Foundation, served on the Logan County Board of Education, was past president of the Conservation Club in West Mansfield and a former member of the Ludlow Center Board.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, June 25, 2020 at the West Mansfield United Methodist Church 212 E. Center St. West Mansfield. Pastor Doug Thompson will officiate and burial will follow at the Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends may call from 5:00-8:00 P.M. Wednesday, June 24, 2020 at Wilson Funeral Home, Schnurrenberger Chapel 222 W. Center St. West Mansfield, OH.
