Obituary for Bill E. Chandler

Father of Bryan E. Chandler, Owner of Chandler Funeral Home

Bill E. Chandler age 63 of Caldwell, formerly of Hunkadori, Ohio passed away Thursday, April 2, 2020 at his home under the care of Hospice of Guernsey Inc. He was born March 24, 1957 in Marietta, OH a son of Nellie R. Hughes Chandler of Caldwell and the late Edward V. “Eddie” Chandler.

He was a 1975 graduate of the Caldwell High School, he went on to work at the former National Aluminum Manufacturing Plant for 11 years before getting on full time at the Caldwell Post Office as a rural mail carrier. He was still employed at the Post Office following 32 years of service, a job he dearly loved. He was a member of the Keith United Methodist Church and the National Rural Letter Carriers’ Association. Along with his wife Sherry, he loved to travel with great friends Doug and Alice Bond. He enjoyed traveling to Amish Country along with his auction buddies, stopping at the Shoney’s buffet along the way. He loved wheeling and dealing on anything especially farm equipment. He rarely missed an auction or a good sale, especially setting up at the Reinersville Flea Market. Most of all he was a family man and loved to spend time with them.

His memory and laugh will be cherished by his family, his wife of 43 years Sherry Gardner Chandler, whom he married June 5, 1976; 3 children Stacy (Jon) Morgenstern, Bryan (Kim) Chandler, and Adam (Jessi) Chandler all of Caldwell; grandchildren Alexis, Hallie, Brie Morgenstern, Preston, Ella, Pyper, Gavin, Gage, Gabi, and Gannet Chandler; 2 brothers Phil (Beth) Chandler of Caldwell and Steve (Debbie) Chandler of Gilbert, AZ; 4 nephews Kurt “FB2”, Jason, Justin, & Nick Chandler. He is also survived by a large extended family and many friends.

Bill loved his community and for their safety the family is abiding with government recommendations for social distancing during the COVID-19 Pandemic, a private family viewing was held Sunday, April 5, 2020 at the Chandler Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 609 West Street, Caldwell, OH 43724. A private funeral service was held Monday, April 6, 2020 in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Jeff Belt Officiating. (Funeral services were available via Facebook Live on the Chandler Funeral Home Facebook Page) Cremation will follow, with inurnment to be held at Dudley Cemetery (where Bill dug graves for the township for many years) at a later date.

The family would like to thank the wonderful nurses and staff of Hospice of Guernsey Inc. and the many care workers at the Strecker Cancer Center in Marietta for the care Bill received. The family would like to apologize for the immediate drop in stock prices of the Swisher Sweet and Pepsi Companies at the word of Bill’s passing. Also we apologize to so many auctioneers who have lost their first bidder and supplier of hog equipment and returned Amazon goods to Noble County.
