Obituary for Blanche L. Quahliero

Mother of Anthony Quahliero, CFSP, OFDA Past President

Blanche Lena Quahliero, 89, passed away on Friday, Aug. 3, 2018, at the Jameson Memorial Hospital with her family at her side.

Born in New Castle on Nov. 16, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Paris and Mary (Mazzocco) DiCola. Blanche was a graduate of New Castle High School class of 1946. She worked at the Bell Telephone Company and later at Golden Hill Nursing Home. She was a member at St. Vitus Church, where she was a former member of its Hand Bell Choir. She worked at the Fourth Ward First Precinct during elections for many years. She enjoyed being at home and doing crossword puzzles, search word, solitaire and playing the Italian card game, Briscola. She enjoyed cooking her Sunday dinners and having her family with her. Called Little Gram, Grandma or Nana, she most enjoyed her grandchildren.

Blanche is survived by her two sons, Anthony J. Quahliero Jr. and his wife, Melanie, Perry L. Quahliero and his wife, Tina; two sisters, Mary Ann Corson and her husband, Dr. Harvey, Marcia Miot; five grandchildren, Ryan, A.J., Angelina and Antonio Quahliero and Jacqueline Romano and her husband, Antonio, and her first great-grandchild, baby Romano, coming in December. She is also survived by a stepson, Vern Leonard; seven step grandchildren; 14 step great-grandchildren; three step great-great-grandchildren along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, Blanche was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony J. (Tony)  Quahliero Sr., who died Nov. 15, 2008; and her brother and sister-in-law, John C. DiCola Sr. and his wife, MaryLou.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2018, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the William & Roger DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Ave. in  New Castle. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Vitus Church. Father Frank Almade will be officiating. A funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 10 a.m. Burial will be at the Parkside Cemetery.

Arrangements are by the Kirila Funeral Home, Inc., in Struthers.
