Obituary for Benjamin H. Ewing

Retired Funeral Director and Former Owner of Ewing Funeral Home

Pomeroy-- Benjamin H. Ewing, 74, of Pomeroy, OH, passed away Sunday, July 22, 2018 at Arcadia Nursing Center in Coolville, OH. 

He was born Nov. 17, 1943 in Pomeroy, OH, son of the late William Henry and Beulah Deweese Ewing. He was a 1961 graduate of Pomeroy High School, a graduate of Rio Grande University, the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science and was the former owner of Ewing Funeral Home in Pomeroy for 50 years. Ben was a 50 year member of the Shade River Lodge #453 F&AM in Chester, where he was a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rites, the Grand Commandery Knights Templar of Ohio, the Elks and was also an Eagle Scout. He was the Youth Director for the Ohio Quarter Horse Association and Director of the All American Quarter Horse Congress. Ben also served on the Board of Directors for Farmers Bank and Savings Company and on the Board of Trustees for Rio Grande University. 

He is survived by 2 daughters, Elizabeth (David) Acree of Racine and Kimberly (Charles) Hardy of Glouster; a son, Ben H. II (Suzanna) Ewing of Pomeroy; his grandchildren, Hannah and Abbie Hawley, Ashley and Ryan Acree and Lauren and Jaxson Ewing; step-grandchildren, Amanda Hardy, Charles Hardy and Jacob Hardy; great-granddaughter, Callie Hardy; and special friends, Ron and Toni McDole. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Caldwell Ewing and a special cousin, Robert Buck. 

Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M., Friday, July 27, 2018 at the Ewing-Schwarzel Funeral Home in Pomeroy, OH, with Pastor Wayne Dunlap officiating. Burial will follow in the Beech Grove Cemetery. 

Visitation will be held at the funeral home Thursday, from 5-8 P.M. A Masonic service will be conducted at 8 P.M. by the Shade River Lodge #453 F&AM. 

The family will be having a dinner and fellowship at the Ewing-Schwarzel Family Center following the graveside service.
