Obituary for Chelsey Charles Santucci

Father of Chelsey N. Santucci, Owner of Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home and Nephew of Peter and Mary Rossi, Owners of Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel

Niles – There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at 11:00 am at St. Rose Church, 48 E. Main St., Girard, with Rev. Msgr. John A. Zuraw officiating, for Chelsey Charles Santucci, 63, of Niles, who lost his courageous battle with cancer on Thursday morning, May 3, 2018. He passed away very peacefully and in the presence of his wife and son at his residence. 

Chelsey will always be remembered and loved by many. He was a man of pure humbleness, simplicity, and strength along with having a work ethic that was unmatched by many.

He was born July 1, 1954 in Warren, the son of Nicholas and Rosaria “Rose”(DiLoreto) Santucci and was a lifelong area resident. 

Chelsey was a graduate of Howland High School and then began his employment careers. He was co-owner of Romar Construction with his father and worked in conjunction at General Motors Lordstown. Upon selling Romar’s business, Chelsey then still worked two jobs as a bricklayer with various contractors and retired before his 50th birthday from General Motors in 2003 after 32.6 years of service but continued to lay brick and block. He truly cherished all the friendships that were made over the years with all his coworkers. 

Chelsey attended St. Rose Church, and was a proud member of the NRA, the Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers Local 8 and the UAW Locals. 

Chelsey had many passions and talents throughout his life.  He was an amazing cook and loved to grill. He was famous for his homemade lasagna, spaghetti sauce, ravioli’s and rice balls. Chelsey loved the outdoors, no matter if it was working in his yard or the garden, or on a beach or in the woods hunting, or on a lake fishing. This all brought him happiness. Another amazing talent of his was the way he took care of his yard and garden. Because he had a green thumb. His garlic was bigger than any store bought and had to be braided a certain way and his lettuce was always over abundant along with all his other vegetables. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed spending time at hunting camp in Pennsylvania and Colorado. He also enjoyed watching Notre Dame Football and was a fan of all the Cleveland teams. 

In the later years, the two things that brought the greatest joy to Chelsey and that he cherished most, was first and foremost when his grandson Dominic was born and came into his life and spending the winters with his father-in-law at their condo in Florida.

He leaves behind to hold onto his precious memories his beloved wife of over 18 years, the former Connie Carano, whom he married October 26, 1999, three children Chelsey N. Santucci of Howland, Jamie Marie Santucci of Columbus and Nicholas Markovsky of Niles, and a grandson who was the apple of his eye, Dominic Markovsky. 

He also leaves his father, Nicholas Santucci of Howland, his father-in-law, Dominic Carano of Hubbard, a brother, and sister, his brothers and sisters in-law, and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.   

He was preceded in death by his mother Rosaria “Rose” Santucci and mother-in-law Stella “Marcia” Carano.  

Family and friends may pay their respects on Friday, May 11, 2018 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel, 1884 North Rd. N.E., Warren. 

Everyone is asked to meet directly at St. Rose Church on Saturday morning to celebrate Chelsey’s mass. 

Entombment will take place at All Souls Cemetery, Bazzetta. 

Chelsey’s family would like to especially thank Dave (Sue) McGarvey and Bob (Marsha) Tawney along with Harbor Light Hospice and Dr. Solanki and his staff for all the care, love, support and compassion that was shown to us and to Chelsey throughout this difficult time. 

Arrangements have been entrusted to the professional care of the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4221 Market St., Boardman.
