Obituary for Paul H. Wiggins, Jr.

Retired funeral director and OFDA member

Paul H. Wiggins Jr. age 73, of Mount Vernon, died Tuesday November 22, 2016 at the Ohio Easter Star Health Care Center in Mount Vernon. Paul was born August 6, 1943 in Holbrook, Massachusetts to Paul H. Wiggins Sr. and Edith Marie (Christian) Wiggins. Paul served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. While on leave in London England, Paul met a young lady from Mount Vernon, Ohio who was there attending classes in art and floral arranging and in 1964 he and Kay Dowds were married. Upon his discharge he and Kay returned to Mount Vernon and joined her father’s funeral home. Paul enrolled at Ashland College and then the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. He and Kay owned and operated the Dowds-Wiggins Funeral Home until their retirement in 1989 when they sold the funeral home to the Snyder family of funeral homes.

Paul was a member of the Gay Street United Methodist Church, Mount Zion Masonic Lodge #9 and Knox Chapter #236 Order of Eastern Star. He was a former member of the Aladdin Shrine, the Baldwin Shrine Club, and the Mount Vernon Rotary Club.

Surviving are his children Marc Wiggins of Streetsboro, and Gail Lashley of Mount Vernon; grandchildren Kyle Lashley, Danielle Lashley, Sarah Metz and Nathaniel E. Wiggins; and his sisters Judie Nickerson and Trish Sanderson both of Massachusetts. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Kay (Dowds) Wiggins in 2008.

Friends may call Tuesday November 29, 2016 from 5PM to 8PM at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050 where masonic services will follow the calling hours. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11AM at the funeral home with Rev. Denise Marikis officiating. Burial with military honors by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council will follow at Mound View Cemetery.
