Cyril E. Brockman

OFDA received word this afternoon that member Cyril E. "Cy" Brockman, 84, of Fort Recovery, died Monday, January 5, 2009. He was born July 13, 1924, in Chickasaw, Ohio, to the late Henry and Anna (Hasselman) Brockman.

Mr. Brockman served in the Marines with the 1st Marine Division in the Pacific during WWII. A 1949 graduate of the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science, he was employed at the former May & Riffle Funeral Directors and Furniture Dealers, Fort Recovery. In 1963 he became owner-operator of Brockman Funeral Home and Brockman Furniture Dealers, Fort Recovery. In 1980 he renovated the former historic Opera House building in downtown Fort Recovery and established Brockman's Appliances.

Cy is survived by his wife of 50 years, Betty Jean (Bergman) Brockman; five sons, Cy Jr. (Linda) Brockman, Mike Brockman, Mitch Brockman, Jim (Pat) Brockman, Joe (Pat) Brockman; two daughters, Vicky (Roger) Knapke and Brenda (Mark) Eichenauer; sister-in-law, Lillian Brockman; 3 special aunts, Rosaline Fullenkamp, Luella Hasselman and Romilda Barhorst; 22 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 2 stepmothers, Mary Wenning and Mattie Gabbord; brother, Vernon "Butch" Brockman.

Visitation will be held 2:00 8:00 PM Wednesday, January 7, 2009 and 9:00-10:00 AM Thursday at Brockman-Boeckman Funeral Home, 308 South Wayne Street, Fort Recovery. The Knights of Columbus will hold a prayer service at 7:45 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. A funeral mass will be held Thursday, January 8, 2009, 10:30 AM at Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, Fort Recovery. Burial in Saint Marys Cemetery, Fort Recovery, with graveside military honors.

Memorials for Cy may be directed to the State of the Heart hospice, St. Henry Emergency Squad or the Cy Brockman Memorial Fund in care of the Fort Recovery Community Foundation.
