SCAM ALERT

Summer Scams are back

OFDA has learned that various funeral scams are once again being reported from members around the state. The most recent versions of the scams include faxed letters and/or emails requesting services or merchandise for an out of the country death. To date, none of the reported deaths or parties involved are legitimate.

Here is the text from one of the scam letters:

Subject: On burial (Urgent response Needed).

Hello,
I am Mrs Linda Porter and I will like to book a burial plot for the burial of my late Father and also make an enquiry on whether you sell caskets and if so do let me have price range. Pls I will like you to email me with the costs for the single burial plot which you have available at this time.I will like to have the space of about $1500 and I will want a basic vault for about $700 ,any good maker will be appreciated. I will pay for closing the grave and the headstone in cash when me and the rest of my family come for the full burial.Pls I will like you to email me the total costs which I am to pay at this time and i will have you run my credit card for 60% of the whole costs now while I pay the balance when me and my family come around for the final Interment. Also you are to run an additional $1200 on my credit card and you are to send this to the burial agent in the United Kingdom ( UK ) via Western Union Money Transfer. This this to be their cost to transfer the body from the United kingdom to the States for the Final Burial and they will oversee the affairs of the burial to take place.
